Tammy Oliver is the founder and owner of Marcescence Counselling Inc. (MCI). MCI’s framework is based on a caring theory in progress which arose in 2005 while Tammy was completing her Bachelor of Nursing degree. Tammy has experience as a hospital nurse, nurse and health educator, telehealth nurse, spiritual teacher, counselling therapist, and currently works as a community mental health nurse in private practice.
She also has a Bachelor of Education degree, a Masters (Education) in Counselling Therapy, and continues to build knowledge and experience via specialized courses, workshops, podcasts, readings, people she works with, and clients. Tammy loves learning and sees herself as a student.
“The more I study and learn, the more I realize there’s much to learn. What I now know about learning, is that there are mind-expanding opportunities around every corner so long as one is willing to look beyond our obvious senses into a space of openness null of fear and judgement.”
Tammy’s caring theory has emerged from her own life experiences and observations about human life and human existence as well as from her love and connectedness with nature – the natural world. Additionally, she draws from several existing evidence-based models and theories found in nursing, psychology, sociology, education, and psych spirituality. Human caring experts such as Richard C. Schwartz, Phil Barker, Poppy Buchannan-Baker, Carl Rogers, Martha E. Rogers, Rosemarie Rizzo Parse, Margaret Newman, Gabor Maté, Eckhart Tolle, Brene Brown, and Irvin D. Yalom (to name a few) create the foundation for Tammy’s theory in progress and framework at MCI, because teachers such as these helps deepen the person-centered holistic approach with clients and practitioners.
